Roundhouse Radio presents series in support of independent bookstores

Starting this Friday April 8, Roundhouse Radio in Vancouver will present a special series during their 'Sense of Place' program.
The series will feature booksellers, readers, publishers, and authors in an extended discussion about the importance of independent bookstores in the development and promotion of Canadian literature and Canadian authors. Many, many thanks to Roundhouse Radio, 'Sense of Place' host Minelle Mahtani, and moderator Robin Rivers.
The segments will air on Fridays from 10:30 am - 11:00 am Pacific Standard Time.
The dates are: April 8, April 15, April 22 and April 29.

FRIDAY APRIL 8: Diversity in Canadian Literature. Everyone talks about diversity in Canadian listerature but how does it actually reflect our nation's diversity? What defines it? How do publishers, booksellers and authors develop and foster it? Why does it matter. Hosted by Minelle Mahtani. Moderator is Robin Rivers. Guests are:
  • Lisa Voisin: a Vancouver-based author of Young Adult supernatural fantasy. Her debut novel, The Watcher, won the Chanticleer Paranormal Grand Prize in 2013. The Warrior Prophet, the third and final book in The Watcher Saga, releases April 13th.
  • Anna Ling Kaye: this author's fiction has most recently been short-listed for the 2015 Journey Prize. Her journalism and non-fiction can be found in The International Herald Tribune, The New York Times, and The Tyee, and her creative work in subTerrain and Prairie Fire magazines. A former editor at PRISM international and Ricepaper magazines, she is co-founder of Hapa-palooza Festival and sits on the board of Project Bookmark Canada. In 2015, Quill & Quire named Anna as one of seven women imprinting change in the Canadian publishing industry.
  • Mary-Ann Yazedjian: manager of Book Warehouse on Main St. She has over 17 years of bookselling experience at five different stores. Her favourite authors include Doug Coupland, David Mitchell, and Ruth Ozeki. She LOVES telling people what to read.
  • Cynara Geissler: marketing manager for Vancouver-based Arsenal Pulp Press. With more than 200 titles currently in print, Arsenal keys in on literature that engages and challenges readers, asking probing questions about the world around us
