The Writer's Studio: Our First Sponsor of 2017

We kick off 2017 with a new sponsor!

Simon Fraser University’s creative writing certificate program, The Writer’s Studio (TWS), is funding two interns to put in some hours for Authors for Indies 2017. Both are graduates of TWS and – happy coincidence – also of Emily Carr University of Art + Design. Literate AND artistic!

Welcome aboard to:

Kitty Widjaja. Kitty is a trained illustrator and designer. She will be creating and tweaking images for the website, social media, and artwork for print and banner ads. Needless to say, it will take her about one-tenth the time to produce images that are ten times better than what I’ve managed to do!

Candie Tanaka, our social media coordinator. She will be responsible for monitoring the Internet and sharing good news. She’s an artist, marketing and social media consultant, and entrepreneur. I have a feeling that there will be plenty of exciting news to share as we roll into February so it’s going to get busy on Facebook and Twitter!

Big thanks to Andrew Chesham and TWS program director Wayde Compton for their generous help.

Somehow I’m not surprised by their response to my request. TWS teaches the craft and the business of writing but it also promotes building community. The program gave me an understanding of the challenges facing authors and the broader ecosystem of Canada’s publishing industry. It motivated me to look around for ways to make a difference and that led to Authors for Indies.
