The bookseller tip for this blog comes from Dan MacDonald of Bookmark Booksellers of Charlottetown, PEI. Blog by Kate Hilton.
You’ve told all of your regular customers about your plans for AFI day. You've put up posters in the store. But how do you create an event that will pull in street traffic and ensure that your customers will stay longer and buy more? Think about how you can offer a full schedule of activities to appeal to every age group.
Here’s what Dan MacDonald of Bookmark Booksellers in Charlottetown, PEI has to say about getting the community excited about AFI Day and made it fun for customers to hang out at the store:
“In 2016 we had 18 Island authors participate in the Authors for Indies event. We promoted the event in our local events publication and set up window displays and sidewalk signage promoting the event and authors. Activities during the day included live music, author readings, a book scavenger hunt, literary pun contest, photo booth and literary treats.
On their own, none of these by themselves were exceptional but I think the combined effect created lots of positive energy.”
